The Lakeway Drive-in site has a rich history and holds many fond memories in the hearts of local residents. Approval to build a theatre was granted on 15 January 1957. The builder was Master Builder A.Doubikin.
The original lease ran from 1956 to 1982. It was between Claremont Council and Lake Claremont Drive-In Pty Ltd and ACE Cinemas Pty Ltd.
The Lakeway Drive-In Theatre opened to the public on 18 April 1957.
In 1982 the Lease was assigned to Odeon Theatres.
Leased to Family Films of WA from 1 September 1984. Lease terminated on 31 January 1985.
Leased to Marsden Cinemas, c/- Savoy Cinema, 636 Hay St Perth. This lease commenced on 29 March 1985.
The Theatre closed on 11 July 1985.
In 1988 Claremont Council began preparing subdivision plans for the site. In 1990 a big tractor rumbled through the abandoned theatre, demolishing the projection room and kiosk.
In January 2007 the Lakeway redevelopment subdivision commenced.
