At the Ordinary Council Meeting of 20 November 2007, Council resolved to adopt the Lakeway Design Guidelines and Detailed Area Plans as Council Policy 101.

The key objectives of the Design Guidelines are:

"...to preserve the qualities and attributes of Lakeway for future residents and to create a sustainable and attractive development that demonstrates best practice in ecologically responsive design and technology."

The design guidelines will guide site planning (layout of buildings on the residential lot), building design and services to each proposed dwelling and have been designed to meet the objectives for privacy, safety, energy, efficiency, aesthetics and reduced use of resources.
